Rope Rescue Team Member/Team Leader Evaluation
Deadline Reminder – April 27th
The evaluation will consist of a written exam, practical skills tests at individual stations and performance in various roles in rope rescue scenarios. There will be no instruction during the evaluation. Participants can expect to demonstrate all of the rope rescue skills as they appear in the manual and in the course.
Applicants should prepare by working with their group's existing Rope Rescue Team Members and Team Leaders. A log, detailing at least 20 hours of practice since the course, must accompany the participant’s application.
Who: All SAR Groups in the South West Region
Where: Squamish
When: May 23 – 25, 2008
The evaluation hours are:
• Friday 1900 – 2200 hrs (classroom and written exam)
• Saturday 0830 – 1700 hrs (in the field)
• Sunday 0830 – 1600 hrs (in the field)
Prerequisites: Participants must:
• Be a member of a SAR Group,
• Be physically fit and able to participate in all aspects of the evaluation,
• Be certified in GSAR,
• Have completed the Rope Rescue Team Member course, and
• Have logged 20 hours of practice prior to applying submit log along with application.
• Applicants for Rope Rescue Team Leader must already have Rope Rescue Team Member certification.
Costs: There will be no course fee, however students will be responsible for their own travel, meals and accommodation costs.
Note: The BC SAR Association will cover 65% of student mileage (carpooling required).
Equipment Required:
• Helmet (UIAA approved)
• Seat and chest harness (UIAA, no improvised harnesses)
• Well-fitting leather gloves
• Safety glasses
• Sturdy footwear
• Clothing suitable for the weather
• Personal training log
• Food and water for the field
• Rappel device
• Ascending Prusiks
Registration: Please submit applications promptly. Applications must be signed by the Training Officer or President of the sponsoring SAR Group and must be accompanied with a copy of the member's rope rescue training log.
